CHANDIGARH/AMRITSAR, August 11: Amidst the ongoing war against drugs waged on the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Punjab Police have busted a cross-border drug smuggling racket with the arrest of one drug smuggler after recovering 5Kg heroin from his possession, said Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav here on Friday.
The arrested accused has been identified as Harpal Singh alias Bhala, a resident of village Lakhna in District Tarn Tarn. Apart from recovering 5kg heroin, the police teams have also impounded a motorcycle Bajaj Platina bearing registration number PB46T4291.
DGP Gaurav Yadav said said that in an intelligence-led operation, the Counter Intelligence team of Amritsar apprehended accused Harpal, when he was going on his Platina motorcycle, during a special checking at village Wan Tara Singh-village Basarke road near Dera Radha Swami in Tarn Taran. During the search of an apprehended person, Police teams recovered 5 KG heroin from his possession, he added.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the arrested accused was actively involved in trans-border drug smuggling,” said the DGP, while adding that the heroin consignment is delivered via drone.
Sharing more details, AIG SSOC Amritsar Sukhminder Singh Mann said that investigations are on to identify Pak-based smugglers and persons, who were supposed to receive this consignment. Further investigations are on, he added.
A case FIR No 24 dated 10/08/23 has been registered under sections 21, 25 and 29 of the NDPS Act at Police Station State Special Operation Cell, Amritsar.
