AAP attacks BJP over Bill replacing CJI with cabinet minister in committee to appoint Chief Election Commissioner | Gurbani World

Chandigarh, August 11:  The Aam Aadmi Party launched a scathing attack on the BJP over the bill replacing the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court (CJI) with a cabinet minister in the high-level committee to appoint the Chief Election Commissioner of the Election Commission.

During a press conference in Chandigarh on Friday, Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said that BJP is the biggest threat to the country’s democracy and constitution. He said that the Modi government is capturing important democratic institutions of the country one by one and politicizing them.

Cheema said that the country is heading towards dictatorship as the Modi government is continuously disrespecting the Supreme Court and arbitrarily canceling the decisions of the Supreme Court. Whatever decision is given by the Supreme Court, one by one the Central Government is overturning all the decisions by misusing the Parliament. This mentality is very dangerous for the democracy of the country.

He said that recently the Supreme Court had given a decision for fair elections and independent work of the Election Commission that the appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner of the country would now be done by a high level committee instead of the central government. The Prime Minister of the country, the Leader of the Opposition and the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court will be in that committee.

But the Modi government overturned the decision of the Supreme Court by bringing a bill in the Parliament as part of a conspiracy to capture the Election Commission and enslave it and replaced the Chief Justice in the committee with its own cabinet minister. This proves that BJP does not want to allow free and fair elections in the country.

Cheema said that this decision is an insult to the constitution of the country, the architect of the constitution Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar and all the great freedom fighters of the country who had a dream of making India a democratic country. Apart from this, this decision is also an insult to the country’s judiciary and 140 crore people, said Cheema.
