AMRITSAR: Bhagwant Singh Mann Punjab Chief Minister today pledged to stay away from drugs as part of an initiative to fight drug menace in the state.
The Chief Minister was was here to launch the local police’s ‘The Hope Initiative’ against drugs. More than 40,000 students, wearing yellow turbans, dupattas, and scarves, took a pledge to stay away from drugs, CM said.
The students were gathered inside the Sri Darbar Sahib complex, where a special prayer{Ardas) was held seeking blessings and strength to keep students away from drugs.
More than 300 teachers and coordinators from various educational institutions and organisations assisted Amritsar Police Commissioner Naunihal Singh in this event. Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav was also present at the function.
While addressing the gathering outside main entrance of Golden Temple , Bhagwant Mann said that “We will make Punjab drug-free. With the blessing of the Almighty, the new generation has taken an oath to stay away from drugs. We will make sure that those who have already been addicts should shun the drugs. We have been running recruitment for the police force every year to provide jobs to the youth. Apart from that, jobs are offered in other departments.
